Week 61: Been Here Before

As I stand on the beach, listening to Lucy and Edmund speaking. To Reepicheep telling Aslan that he wishes to go to His country, I realize that I have been here before. I've stood here before and felt my heart being squeezed, though not nearly as tight that time.

Just three years ago, I had to let them go. I had to let her go. Though at the time, I never realized that it was her I ached for. I thought it was her sister, but it was not. The Valiant one was just a little girl then. Some would say she still was, but she had matured and grown into a beauty that was obvious then.

I let my thoughts drift some as we watch Reepicheep take the small boat over the waves and disappear to Aslan's country forever. It's her words that bring me back to the here and now. Back to where I've been before.

"This is our last time here, isn't it?"

I felt my heart constrict at the words. This couldn't be. No, this couldn't be the last time I would see them. Or her. But as I hug her good-bye, I shouldn't be surprised.

After all. I've been here before.

Never easy to let anyone go. I absolutely loathe doing so.

I would rather have not let either of them go, especially her. But Aslan decreed it so. I can't help but hope I get the chance to see her sometime again.
